How we do it
We are very proud of the quality of the work we provide. As you can see in our demo clips, we are versed in international timing conventions (yes, we match shot changes!), and we are very strict with language standards. We abide by known language style guides (Chicago Manual of Style, New York Times Manual of Style and Usage, Diccionario panhispánico de dudas de la RAE, Diccionario de la lengua española, Nueva gramática de la lengua española, Vocabulário Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa), and we are very meticulous with punctuation, grammar, and spelling. This is crucial because audiovisual translation has a very determining quality: it’s ephemeral. Every line heard, every subtitle read exists for mere seconds. To assure that the spectator gets the message, clarity is key. And a great deal of this clarity is given by the correct use of the language in question. Ambiguities create doubt in the mind of the spectator that might distract them from other important information.
Of course, we are also very rigorous with the quality of the translation. All our translators hold university degrees and translate into their native language. A well translated text looks like it was originally written in the target language. It has a local quality, a good flow, an organic feel, and that is what we strive to achieve.
Lastly, all our subtitlers/captioners are trained in-house and take regular refresher courses.
We use a state-of-the-art subtitling and captioning software, EZ Titles, that helps us ensure that the technical aspects of our files are always met. EZ Titles can create, reformat, convert, check, and fix subtitles and captions to our (your) heart’s desire with just a few clicks. That makes us very quick, too!
Our “editors” (general name we use to identify our translators, captioners, subtitlers, QCers, because most of them wear many hats) are divided into small teams, each helmed by a Team Leader. This ensures that they are closely monitored and that standards are met. Our system is so well-oiled that it organically includes the quality control instance. This translates (see what we did there?) into our price per minute being lower, and the quality being very high (our rejection rate is way under 5%!) Naturally, we can provide QCed files for you for a little extra money; anything to make our clients happy.
